What Can You Do?
Here are several ways you can help conserve this nation's wildlife:
Join a volunteer conservation group that goes around cleaning up habitats, roadsides and parks.
Donate to a wildlife refuge or nature reserve
Don't litter, instead follow the rules of the state and clean up after yourself
Try to cut down on pollution by taking public transportation or riding a bike
Recycle; build a compost pile or start recycling your paper and glass products
Conserve energy in your home by unplugging appliances once you are done using them
Buy organic fruits and vegetables
Plant native plants and trees or build a birdhouse; this can provide a habitat for many species
Don't plant or introduce non-native species around your home and de-weed your garden as the seeds may migrate to other places
When a species is under review by the FWS speak up when it asks for the public's opinion
Write articles or letters to the editor in your area to make the public aware of species at risk so they can join in the conservation efforts
Start a petition to save a species in your area that you think could use help
Tell a friend, nothing is stronger than the power of a community
